Spotlight on - Taylor-Jae

Taylor_JaeAlthough she has been a major supporter and fundraiser for Ryan's Well for the past several years, her commitment to the Foundation was re-invigorated in 2010 when she operated an information booth at her university with the help of our Education Coordinator, Elisabeth.

"After only a few hours of speaking to people about the passion we have for the Foundation, I remembered why I fell in love with the organization in the first place. I realized that what catches people's attention about Ryan's Well is the story; a genuine tale of a humble, ordinary boy who decided to do extraordinary things," Taylor-Jae remembers.

In addition to helping raise awareness, Taylor-Jae has also organized several fundraising events at home, in her school and with the help of her community.

"I started a humanitarian club in my highschool called the Motiv8rs, and we raised funds for various organizations, the most frequent being Ryan's Well. We did this with simple fundraisers such as selling snacks at a dodgeball tournament, raffling off tickets for the 'best seat in the house' in the cafeteria and at our school assembly. Our biggest fundraiser for Ryan's Well was a community-wide art project where we incorporated art lessons with lessons about water and sanitation in various elementary schools. We then sold the paintings made in the classes and donated the money. On a more personal level, in lieu of Christmas presents from my family members one year, I asked for donations to Ryan's Well."

Taylor-Jae is most passionate about helping others and educating herself about global issues. She is currently enrolled in the International Development and Globalization program at the University of Ottawa.

"The most important thing to remember when you want to get involved is that every little bit helps. For me it started with Googling fundraising ideas to two years later running a semester-long art project that educated our community about water and sanitation. Ask yourself how you can help and get creative with it. It doesn't take much to organize a fundraiser. Tell a friend about Ryan's Well. Tell a stranger. Educate yourself and others. Before you know it you'll be making a difference and telling people how THEY can get involved."
