2009 School Challenge Project

Safe Water and Sanitation for Adakpame School and Community

School Challenge 2009
Water is flowing at Adakpame School!
Togo, 2010

We launched our first School Challenge in late 2009 – to be completed in time for World Water Day 2010 – on March 22. The incredible 15 schools in 9 countries involved helped raise $22,575 – surpassing our target of $18,400 for this much-needed project!

Thanks to the funds raised by participating schools:

  • A new well was constructed at Adakpame School in Togo with two school yard taps and two taps for the community.
  • A latrine and handwashing station was completed.
  • Community water and sanitation committees were established and trained along with school hygiene clubs.
  • Fifteen teachers were trained as trainers of hygiene education!
