2011 School Challenge Project
Help us create brighter futures for over 2,500 Kenyans!
See How These Schools are Getting Involved!
This year's project provides a unique opportunity to learn about challenges faced in Kenya when it comes to water access. For the School Challenge project in Ngong sub-county Kenya, drilling a well - like we have in previous School Challenge projects - is both too expensive and fluoride levels in the water are too high for safe consumption. Instead, rainwater harvesting tanks are constructed to store water collected during rainy seasons.
Our goal is to raise $30,000 to bring clean water to over 2,500 people in Ngong Sub-County, Kenya!
There are two easy ways to join the 2011/ 2012 School Challenge:
- Print a copy of our School Challenge Pledge Form, enter your pledge, collect signatures from everyone involved and send the completed copy to elisabeth@ryanswell.ca
- Complete our electronic form, below. If you'd like, you can still email a completed copy of the print version to elisabeth@ryanswell.ca.
Remember, completing a pledge form means you have committed to participate in this year's exciting challenge. If you are a student and would like your class or school to get involved, we will require approval and contact from a teacher. And finally, your pledge is simply a goal of how much you'd like to raise - be realistic and have fun!

Amazing Antonia! Led by Antonia, a very dedicated, determined and compassionate student, the students at the British Schools in Montevideo in Uruguay held various fundraising activities to donate to our School Challenge project in Kenya!
"In the school there is a particular way of raising money, or even clothes, food, toys for different campaigns. This day is called "Non - uniform day", so every student that comes to the school dressed without the uniform must bring anything that is established for that particular campaign. So in our case, they should bring at least $30 Uruguayan pesos (that is around $2 US dollars) to help Ryan's Well Foundation. So with the money raised that day and some more money that we had from last year we reached our goal!"
What an amazing job ... thank you so much!

Blue! Blue! Blue! Grade 4 students at Stratford Elementary School in Prince Edward Island created an sea of blue as they baked, decorated and sold cupcakes to raise funds for the School Challenge. In school, they were talking about heroes and, once again, they were inspired by Ryan! As their teacher said:
"The students had so much fun preparing for the sale. They wrote a speech to present to the other classes, to tell them a bit about Ryan and the Foundation. It was exciting to see the whole school get in on the action - we'd just about sold out of cupcakes in the first hour of the sale! Our multipurpose room was a sea of blue. What a meaningful activity for the students - something they'll always remember! I feel so fortunate that my class and I can be a small part of the amazing work that you are doing."
Fantastic job ... thank you!

Dancing to Make a Difference: Students at Sir Robert Borden High School in Ottawa, ON have been very enthusiastic about raising funds for the School Challenge! They set high goals for themselves and are doing a fabulous job! To help spread the word, they collected information about the project in Kenya to share in a school display case. They also held a "Casino" themed dance - organized by the Student Council - where they sold 'Mocktails" to thirsty dancers! What a great idea - well done!

The Little School That Could: Grade 2/3 students at Merrickville Public School in Merrickville, ON never thought their inspiration from Ryan would take them this far. After hearing Ryan's story, they joined the School Challenge and started doing extra chores at home to raise money meet their pledge; their teacher even said he would match their donation if they reached their goal. No one ever thought they would reach it - let alone surpass it by almost 15 times more!!! This class did an amazing job and they certainly inspired all of us, too. They were most surprised when Ryan and Jimmy stopped by to visit their class just before the Christmas holidays! Thank you!
