Susan Lindgren Elementary School
Grade 1 Students (St.Louis Park, Minnesota)
The First Grade class at Susan Lindgren Elementary School in Minnesota was studying basic needs and learned that many people around the world do not have safe water to stay healthy. The class wanted to make a difference and voted to raise money to help build a well for others who did not have access to safe water and sanitation facilities. They decided to collect spare change from friends and family during one week in March. They also decided to invite the other three First Grade classes to participate in their fundraising effort. The students worked in small groups to make posters to take to other First Grade classrooms and they gave a presentation about their project using a PowerPoint presentation highlighting pictures and key words. After the presentation, the students dropped off a large container for each class to collect the change donated during the week.
The students would bring in donations according to the following schedule:
Monday, March 7th - Pennies
Tuesday, March 8th - Nickels
Wednesday, March 9th - Dimes
Thursday, March 10th - Quarters
Friday, March 11th - Dollars
When they finished their fundraiser, they sent a thank you note to all the first graders and their families, with a graph showing how much each class collected. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for all the first grade classes! They exceeded their fundraising goal for the Ryan's Well Foundation!
"Thank you so much for all your help with the class' fundraising efforts. The updates have been very informative and will give the students a good idea of what the money they raised is helping to build!"
