Grade 2 Students (Kamsack, Saskatchewan)

Victoria SchoolGrade 2 students at Victoria School in Kamsack, Saskatchewan studied a unit this year focused on Global Education. Part of the unit talked about the importance of water in the world. Their teacher had bought the book Ryan and Jimmy and the Well in Africa That Brought Them Together and used it in his class as a "powerful teaching tool".

He said: "The students were amazed at the reality of the world's water crisis and inspired by Ryan's story; they initiated a fundraiser saying: 'If Ryan could do it, so can we!' We held an assembly for the entire school and the students spread the message! After this we thought a walk-a-thon would be a fitting fundraiser to reflect how far Jimmy and other people in the world have to walk to get water."

Victoria SchoolAside from their walk-a-thon, they also held an ice cream sale. Ryan's Well t-shirts were purchased and given out as prizes and this small rural school raised some impressive funds!

The donations will go to help the Aromo Sub-County Water & Sanitation Project in Uganda. Fantastic job!
