Ryan's story has helped thousands of kids around the world believe they have the ability to create a positive difference in the world around them. And, with a little guidance and support - it's amazing what these kids can accomplish.
Whether at home or school - teaching kids about the benefit and importance of giving back is a lesson that will benefit them for years to come!
Starting early can help kids become more charitable as they grow - fueling the cycle of inspiration and motivation for years to come - just like Caroline has helped to do for her daughters, Norah and Madeleine!

"Norah was in Grade 1 last year and her social studies teacher explained that there were children in the world who did not have clean water. She came home VERY upset about this and said we had to do something. I told her there was a kid - just like her - named Ryan who raised money for clean water in Africa who was also in Grade 1 when he learned about what was going on with unhealthy water and how it hurt children (our kids are pretty aware about the difficulties children in other countries, and here in Canada, face - part of our Christmas every year is giving money to charities and time at the Salvation Army).
I brought the book "Ryan and Jimmy" home from school and we discussed what we could do. In the past they have asked for money in lieu of birthday gifts for Sick Kids Hospital (as Madeleine was a patient there as a baby) and for a wheelchair accessible playground in our hometown, so that was a natural choice to do.

We talked about sending out an email asking friends and family to give their pennies and we received many donations from that. Then, in the summer, they hosted a 2 day lemonade stand and the whole neighbourhood came to support their efforts. They even got mentioned in the local paper (we come from a REALLY small town)!
The whole experience was AMAZING and the girls still talk about how much fun they had and how much they appreciate what Ryan is doing." - Caroline
Not only does helping your kids get involved teach them lessons in caring, sharing and responsibility - they provide an excellent opportunity for families to spend time together and learn more about each other!
