This holiday season, donations in support of this much-needed project were matched dollar-for-dollar up to $15,000 thanks to our generous match donor!
Project Activities: The Ruhinda Women's Integrated Develoment Foundation will soon be completing the last of 48 protected springs throughout Rukungiri District of southwest Uganda. Word of their success and positive impact on the communities of Rukungiri has reached into neighbouring sub-counties and to Bushenyi District. The demand for safe water supply and sanitation is ever present and RWIDF will now seek to answer the call in Bushenyi District while also completing an additional 10 springs in Rukungiri. Their planned activities include:
- Construction of 15 protected springs in Bushenyi and Rukungiri Districts
- Construction of 10 latrines with handwashing
- Community education, training and outreach to promote good hygiene practices
Status: As of November 2011, 7 of 15 protected springs and 5 of 10 latrines have been completed. Household visits in Bugangari, Buhunga and Ruhinda Sub-counties took place to assess hygiene and sanitation and 6 more sites for protected springs have been identified.
